It started with a drawer.
Growing up, it didn't matter what the occasion was: a birthday party, an end-of-year thank-you for a teacher, the holidays. My mom always had the right card, waiting in a drawer full of them in her room.
As an adult, I didn't have that drawer. I had a habit of pulling into a CVS in a full suit on the way to a wedding, hunting for a card I'd sign in the parking lot.
